Small Talk

I know a place beyond
These stamp-sized plots
Our tongues are used to licking.
We'll make a lifetime there
Of our moment together
Without escaped droplets from far-off dunes
Flooding our unparched throats.
But you only have eyes for
Your own scarred tongue drowning
In familiar waters.
So I just smile alone beside you.
